SIFC: Pakistan, Canada agree to enhance agricultural cooperation

ISLAMABAD: As the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) continues to play a vital role in strengthening the economy, Pakistan and Canada have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector, focusing on innovation and development.

During a meeting between Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain and Canadian High Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding agricultural collaboration.

Discussions centered on boosting joint efforts in hybrid seed production, livestock breeding, and feed formulation. The federal minister also proposed launching joint ventures for the local manufacturing of agricultural machinery to promote self-sufficiency.

Highlighting the benefits of canola cultivation, the minister noted that it could modernize agricultural output, raise farmers’ income, and open new opportunities in global markets.

The partnership between Pakistan and Canada in agriculture and food security is expected to enhance Pakistan’s export potential worldwide. Both countries also agreed to form a joint working group to collaborate on certification, market access, and technical support.

The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) remains key to boosting the economy with policies designed to attract foreign investment and enhance investor confidence.
