Web Desk: Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha has welcomed the defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening peace and security in the region.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Taha congratulated the three countries and expressed the OIC’s support for the agreement, according to the statement.
The pact comes as countries across the region face a changing security environment marked by both conventional and non-conventional threats. Against that backdrop, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have sought closer strategic and defence cooperation.
Taha praised the leadership of the three countries for what he described as their efforts to advance the agreement.
He said the pact reflected a commitment to closer cooperation, solidarity and partnership among the three OIC member states.
The OIC secretary-general also presented the agreement as a development that could contribute to wider efforts to promote security and stability across the Muslim world.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye each hold significant military and strategic influence in their respective regions. Their closer defence ties could deepen cooperation between South Asia and the Middle East while expanding coordination on shared security concerns.
The agreement is also expected to provide a framework for greater strategic coordination among the three countries as they respond to evolving regional security challenges.
However, the scope and practical implementation of the pact will depend on further details about its mechanisms, commitments and defence cooperation arrangements.
The agreement has the potential to strengthen links between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
For Pakistan, closer defence cooperation with Riyadh and Ankara could reinforce its strategic partnerships beyond South Asia. Saudi Arabia could further expand its security relationships, while Türkiye could deepen defence and technology cooperation with two important partners.
