Web Desk: An anti-terrorism court has issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and four other accused in a case related to the May 9 attack and arson at Radio Pakistan in Peshawar.
The court ordered authorities to arrest all five accused and produce them at the next hearing.
Judge Wali Muhammad Khan presided over the hearing, during which the public prosecutor submitted the police challan, or final investigation report, to the court. Advocate Ali Zaman appeared on behalf of the accused.
During the proceedings, defence counsel Ali Zaman requested additional time to prepare the case and asked the court to adjourn the hearing.
However, the prosecution maintained that it had submitted the challan and that arrest warrants had been issued against the accused. The court subsequently ordered their arrest and production at the next hearing before adjourning further proceedings.
According to the prosecution, protesters stormed the Radio Pakistan building on May 9 and set it on fire, while public and private property was also damaged during the unrest.
Following the incident, police registered a case against more than 80 people, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers and party workers.
The prosecution said Radio Pakistan later filed an application seeking the inclusion of five additional accused, including Afridi, in the case.
The issuance of arrest warrants forms part of the ongoing judicial proceedings. The allegations against the accused have yet to be finally adjudicated by the court.
