Web Desk: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has condemned what he described as an unprovoked attack by the Afghan Taliban on the Angoor Adda border area in Lower South Waziristan, saying Pakistan’s security forces responded swiftly to protect civilians and defend the country’s sovereignty.

In a post on social media platform X, Kundi said Afghan Taliban fighters opened sudden fire on Angoor Adda Bazaar and nearby residential areas, damaging homes and commercial properties.

He described the attack on civilian areas as a serious violation of international law and said such incidents undermine efforts to establish lasting peace along the region’s western border.

Following the attack, residents expressed concern as security forces moved quickly to secure their positions and bring the situation under control, according to the governor.

Kundi praised the armed forces for what he called an immediate and decisive response to the border violation and attack on civilians.

He said security forces targeted the positions used by the attackers and forced them to retreat.

The governor said the response demonstrated Pakistan’s resolve to protect its territorial integrity and national security, adding that the country would not allow its sovereignty to be compromised.

Kundi also pointed to the sacrifices made by residents, police and security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during more than two decades of fighting militancy.

He said the province had paid a heavy price for peace and that those sacrifices could not be disregarded.

The governor stressed that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would not accept threats to their security and called for greater seriousness from neighboring countries in managing border security and regional stability.

Kundi said the Afghan interim government should not interpret Pakistan’s preference for peace as weakness.

He warned that any further aggressive action would face a response from the Pakistani state.

He also called for unity among the country’s political leadership, security institutions and people in confronting security challenges, saying Pakistan remained determined to defend its territory and protect its citizens.
