Islamabad: A recently surfaced official document has revealed that Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar, who passed away on October 23, had been granted medical leave due to dengue fever, yet he continued performing his duties until the very day of his death.
According to the letter, SP Adeel Akbar had applied for leave following a positive dengue report. His three-day leave (October 20–22) was officially approved on October 23 the same day he tragically passed away.
Sources said that despite being unwell, SP Adeel Akbar remained active in service. On October 21, he reported to his office in full uniform, overseeing ongoing investigations and field operations under his command at Industrial Area Division, Islamabad.
Operation against a Dacoit Gang in Kohat
During that period, a special team from the Industrial Area Police had been deployed to Kohat to pursue a dacoit gang. SP Akbar was reportedly instructed by a senior officer to personally proceed to Kohat, despite his illness.
Accompanied by his DSP, SP Akbar left for Kohat around 5:00 p.m. and reached Khushalgarh Bridge at approximately 7:45 p.m., where he gathered intelligence about the gang and supervised part of the investigation.
He later returned to Islamabad before 10:00 p.m. and the arrested suspects were shifted to the capital the following day.
Local sources in Kohat said SP Akbar had been advised against transporting detainees at night for safety reasons. Colleagues said he appeared “delighted over the successful operation” and was determined to resume duty the next morning.
Dedication to Duty
On October 22, he once again attended his office in uniform, continuing official work despite fever. Witnesses confirmed he was also on duty on October 23, the day he passed away.
The emergence of his leave approval letter has stirred conversations across police and administrative circles, highlighting the late officer’s commitment, discipline, and dedication to duty even in the face of serious illness.
