Gillespie accuses Aaqib Javed of lacking selection strategy

Pakistan team is playing with fear; there appears to be no selection strategy in the team, says Gillespie

Former Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has strongly criticized Aaqib Javed.

Advising Aaqib Javed to look in the mirror, Jason Gillespie said that the Pakistani team is playing with fear and that there appears to be no selection strategy in the team.

The former coach said that Aaqib Javed changes his decisions every day. He has been the chief selector for two years and has blamed Gary Kirsten and me for the current situation. “It has been a long time since we left the Pakistan team, but Aaqib Javed still blames us,” he said.

Gillespie said that Aaqib Javed should accept responsibility for the current situation. There is a lack of communication between the players and Aaqib Javed, while players who were removed from the team learned about their dismissal from their family members, friends and the media.

The former coach further said that not informing players directly about the decision to remove them is extremely disrespectful.

It is also worth noting that earlier Aaqib Javed, had blamed captain Babar Azam and coach Sarfaraz Ahmed for the defeat in the Test series against England.

Speaking on Geo News’ programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath, Aaqib Javed had commented on the unusual changes made to the team and had said that some matters fall under the responsibility of the selectors, and they were ready to take responsibility for the squad. However, the required team combination could not be achieved during the tour.

Aaqib Javed said that he had also discussed the matter with captain Babar Azam and coach Sarfaraz Ahmed.

He further had said that when the coach and captain were unable to make decisions, someone had to take action. “The world is laughing at us because we are not even able to compete,” he said.
