Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that resetting the system is necessary and that the objective is not to change the government or any political party.
Addressing a ceremony in Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi said that even after 79 years, the country has not achieved the desired results. He said it is necessary to reset the system, adding that Pakistan needs to examine its system and be clear about the actual purpose behind talking about resetting it.
He said different interpretations had been given to the idea of resetting the system. Some people linked it to the incumbent government, while others interpreted it as referring to the existing political setup. However, he said, the call for resetting the system was not directed at any particular government or political party.
The federal minister said Pakistan would also have to review its system. “Our objective is not to change the government or any political party; our objective is to address the shortcomings in the system.” He said many plans had been formulated over the past 79 years, but the public had not received the desired results. Education, healthcare, clean water and sanitation are basic facilities that every citizen should receive. Improving the system and service delivery would help resolve public problems.
Mohsin Naqvi further said everyone would have to accept that there is a need to reset the system. The purpose of resetting the system is not to eliminate anything but to improve it. The system must be reset while remaining within the framework of the Constitution and law, and changes to the system should be made in accordance with the Constitution and through political consensus.
He said the decision regarding new administrative units should not be made at the will of a political party or an individual. The decision to establish new administrative units should be based on the will of the people of Pakistan. If the people want new administrative units, they should be created under all circumstances; if they do not want them, such units should not be created under any circumstances. The constitutional right given to the people regarding new administrative units must be recognised.
“Every citizen in Pakistan is receiving the NFC Award. If anyone is not receiving it, it is the citizens of Islamabad. Are the citizens of Islamabad not Pakistanis? If any province is to be created, it should be Islamabad, and everyone should support this,” said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
