The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has declared a warning message circulating on social media regarding the number  051 7080507 fake and misleading.

According to a private TV channel, the viral message, attributed to the PTA, claimed that receiving a call from the said number could result in mobile accounts and personal information being stolen within just a few seconds.

The message also claimed that the number was linked to software capable of obtaining data from a mobile phone during a call lasting 5 to 7 seconds.

The viral message urged citizens to forward the warning to their family members and friends to protect them from the alleged cyber fraud.

However, the PTA clarified that no such warning had been issued by it and that the message circulating on social media had no connection with the authority.

According to the telecom regulator, the fake notification regarding the said phone number has been circulating on social media for several days.

The PTA advised the public not to trust unverified information received on social media or share it further.

The PTA urged citizens to refer to the authority’s official social media accounts for authentic information and the latest announcements.

The PTA’s clarification comes at a time when public concern over cyber fraud and fake online warnings is increasing in the country.
