Web Desk: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on Friday that relations between Pakistan and Iran are grounded in mutual respect and enduring goodwill, adding that Tehran values Islamabad’s diplomatic role in regional engagements.

Speaking in a statement, Baghaei said the “mutual affection” between the two countries was so strong that Iran would not have accepted Pakistan’s mediation efforts otherwise.

He expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s government and people, saying Tehran appreciated Islamabad’s contribution in supporting diplomatic dialogue.

Baghaei stressed that Pakistan-Iran relations are built on “reciprocal love and respect,” adding that such bonds would continue to strengthen over time despite regional challenges.

He reiterated that the depth of bilateral ties reflected long-standing cultural, religious and regional connections between the two neighboring states.

The remarks come as Pakistan has recently stepped up high-level diplomatic engagement with Iran, including sending a senior delegation to Tehran for official engagements surrounding the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, accompanied by senior cabinet members, political leaders and parliamentary representatives.

The visit underscored Pakistan’s intent to maintain close diplomatic communication with Tehran amid shifting regional dynamics.

Pakistan has previously played a facilitative role in regional diplomatic channels involving Iran, particularly during periods of heightened tensions in the Middle East.

Islamabad has consistently advocated dialogue and restraint, positioning itself as a supporter of regional stability and cooperation.

The recent high-level exchanges reflect continued efforts by both countries to strengthen bilateral ties across political, economic and security domains.

Both sides have repeatedly emphasised that cooperation between Pakistan and Iran remains essential for regional peace and development, particularly along their shared border areas.
