Web Desk: Two security personnel were martyred after armed terrorists attacked a security post established to curb smuggling in the Panwan area of Jiwani, officials said on Thursday, adding that at least four attackers were reported killed as security forces launched a clearance operation.
The assault targeted a checkpoint located along a key smuggling route in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.
According to security officials, the post had been set up to disrupt cross-border smuggling activities and had played a significant role in intercepting illicit trade in the area.
The attackers included terrorists affiliated with “Fitna al-Hindustan” operating in coordination with smuggling networks that had suffered financial losses due to the post’s operations.
The attackers opened fire on the checkpoint during the evening, prompting security personnel to return fire.
The assault was repelled after an exchange of gunfire, with preliminary reports indicating that four terrorists were killed. The casualty figure has not been independently verified.
The military said two security personnel were martyred while defending the post during the attack.
Their identities were not immediately released.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the surrounding area and launched a search operation to locate any remaining attackers.
Officials said the operation was continuing and that additional details would be released as the situation develops.
Balochistan has witnessed recurring attacks on security forces and infrastructure, with authorities frequently attributing such assaults to terrorists groups operating in the province.
