Web Desk: Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran have drawn international attention following Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Iran, with Reuters and Bloomberg highlighting Islamabad’s role in efforts to break a diplomatic deadlock.

Pakistan has stepped forward as a potential intermediary as tensions between the United States and Iran threaten regional stability and raise concerns over disruptions to global energy supplies.

Pakistan is again playing a key role in efforts to reduce US-Iran tensions and help bring an end to the conflict. Before travelling to Tehran, Munir held discussions with US President Donald Trump and senior American officials, according to the information provided.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that the central objective of Munir’s visit was to help restart negotiations between Washington and Tehran that had stalled. The report also noted that continued tensions and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt global energy supplies and oil shipments.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Munir completed his visit to Iran, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Upon arrival, Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other senior civilian and military officials.

During the visit, Munir held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s representative on the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the Iranian foreign and interior ministers.

The discussions focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and pursuing steps toward an early end to the conflict, ISPR said.

In addition, the sides discussed regional security and mechanisms for resolving conflicts through negotiations rather than confrontation.

According to ISPR, Iran’s leadership welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue, reduce tensions and support a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The diplomatic push comes as uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz has heightened concerns about global energy markets. The waterway is a major route for international oil shipments, making efforts to prevent further escalation significant for both regional security and the global economy.

Pakistan’s latest diplomatic initiative therefore places Islamabad at the center of efforts to encourage dialogue between Washington and Tehran, while seeking to prevent the conflict from widening across the region.
