Heavy fog in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the night between Friday and Saturday disturbed the routine life and disrupting traffic on Motorways due to low visibility, the private media channel reported on Saturday.

The heavy fog badly affected the cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Accrding to the motorways official, the Motorway M1 from Peshawar to Rashakai, Motorway M2 from Lahore to Hiran Minar, Motorway M3 from Faizpur to Rajana, Motorway M5 from Multan to Zahir Pir, and Motorway M11 from Lahore to Sialkot have been closed for all kinds of traffic.

The Motorway police have requested  the drivers to use the Grand Trunk (GT) Road for travelling. They have also asked the drivers to drive slowly and switch on fog lights.

The Motorway police have also requested people to stay home and avoid unnecessary travelling. Dense fog has also disrupted traffic at several places in the province at the National Highway due to low visibility.

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) issued an emergency travel alert, saying heavy fog has forced the closure of Motorway M-11 and M-4. The NHMP said M-11 (Lahore–Sialkot) and M-4 (Gojra–Abdul Hakim Interchange) will stay closed for travellers.

Thick fog disrupted travel in many parts of Pakistan, especially in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where major roads were covered in low visibility.

The dense fog made it difficult for drivers to see, increasing the risk of accidents on highways.

To ensure public safety, the NHMP temporarily closed several motorways to protect commuters from dangerous conditions.
