Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called the governor’s rule an extreme step and said that if it is imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) due to poor governance, it should also be applied in other provinces, as their situations are not different from KP’s.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Peshawar Press Club, he expressed concern that the country’s constitutional heads are standing against each other.
Abbasi said, “Leaders have become parties. The federation and provinces must tolerate each other. Politics should focus on the welfare of the country, not on holding a chair. Our goal must be to serve the people and the nation.”
He added, “The only way for the country to progress is to follow the constitution and the law. Ignoring them will only worsen the system and the problems we face.”
Abbasi emphasized Pakistan’s youth as the country’s greatest asset, saying they need education, jobs, and business opportunities. He warned that political instability discourages investment.
“We talk about connecting the country. This is Pakistan’s need, and we all must work together for development. It is not just the responsibility of one person or one party. I hope the youth of Peshawar and KP will join us in this effort,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of mutual respect among leaders, warning against the deterioration of the country. Commenting on the 27th Amendment, Abbasi called it a black mark on Pakistani politicians, predicting that parties will eventually try to reverse it.
