Web Desk: A fact-check report released by Balochistan Reality Check has highlighted inconsistencies in social media claims linked to the deadly blast near Chaman Phatak in Quetta, raising concerns over the spread of unverified information online.
According to the report, several accounts on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared conflicting figures regarding the number of Frontier Corps personnel allegedly affected in the attack.
One account claimed that six junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and 78 personnel were involved, while another reported nine JCOs and 51 personnel. A third account cited six JCOs and 58 personnel, the report stated.
Moreover, the fact-check analysis said the discrepancies indicated that the circulating information lacked consistency and was not based on verified or coordinated data.
Concerns over misinformation
Meanwhile, the report warned that the spread of contradictory claims on social media could contribute to misinformation and public confusion during sensitive security incidents.
In addition, the fact-checking platform urged users to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing content online.
The report also said misleading narratives and unverified statistics often emerge rapidly after major incidents, particularly on social media platforms, making independent verification critical.
Furthermore, authorities and analysts have repeatedly cautioned against relying on unofficial online accounts for casualty figures and operational details during ongoing investigations.
