Babar hits century, smashes multiple records

Pakistan’s top batter Babar Azam achieved milestones on Friday after his long-awaited century against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.  

Earlier in 2023 ACC Men’s Asia Cup, Babar Azam scored international century against Nepal. According to media reports, Babar Azam scored a century on Friday against Sri Lanka after a long wait of 83 international innings. However, Babar’s century played a key role in Pakistan’s win against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

After the century against Sri Lanka, Babar now has a record of 20 centuries in ODIs. In the past, legendary Pakistani cricketer Saeed Anwar had the same number of centuries in international cricket.

·         Babar Azam – 20 centuries in 136 innings

·         Saeed Anwar – 20 centuries in 244 innings

·         Mohammad Yousuf – 15 centuries in 267 innings

·         Fakhar Zaman – 11 centuries in 90 innings

Babar Azam also crossed former South African captain AB de Villiers after securing his 20th century at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Babar Azam is on number 3rd in the list of fast batters in men’s ODIs.

South Africa’s Hasim Amla and India’s Virat Kohli are in the two top positions in the list.

Fastest Century Makers to 20 in Men’s ODIs:

·         Hashim Amla – 108 innings

·         Virat Kohli – 133 innings

·         Babar Azam – 136 innings

·         AB de Villiers – 175 innings

·         Rohit Sharma – 183 innings

According to the media reports, it was Babar’s 4th century against Sri Lanka. However, the former cricket star, Saeed Anwar, had 7 centuries against Sri Lanka.
