The Environment Department has sealed 21 restaurants and issued notices to more than 150 restaurants and barbecue points for violating environmental laws in Rawalpindi.
According to details, the department has intensified its crackdown on restaurants, tikka houses and barbecue points on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The Environment Department said its field and night squads carried out operations in different areas of the city. As part of the crackdown, 21 restaurants were sealed for violating environmental regulations, while notices were issued to more than 150 restaurants and barbecue points.
During the operations, environmental regulations were also enforced at several locations.
The sealed restaurants include Shahi Tikka House, Masha Tikka House, Red Onion, Amroz Shinwari, Khyber Shinwari, Qissa Khwani Kabab, Butt Foods, HM Foods and Lahori Chaska, among others.
According to the Environment Department, the operations were conducted under the supervision of Marriyum Aurangzeb, Environment Secretary Salwat Saeed, Director General EPA Abdullah Nair Sheikh and Deputy Director EPA Rawalpindi Sadia Batool.
Inspectors Rana Umair Asad, Amanullah and Umar Farooq, along with Field Assistants Tanveer Hussain Shah and Jawad Azim, took part in the operations.
Environment Department officials said night monitoring and legal action would continue across the city without discrimination to control environmental pollution.
