PIMS Tragedy: PM suspends 8 officials

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attempted “cowardly” drone attack near the holy site in Makkah and reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for Saudi Arabia.

According to details, the prime minister described the attempted drone attack targeting Makkah as an extremely regrettable and unforgivable act.

He said the Pakistani nation was deeply saddened and concerned over the “nefarious attempt” targeting Makkah.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain remain close to the heart of every Pakistani.

He said Pakistan would always stand shoulder to shoulder with its Saudi brothers in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The prime minister also praised the Saudi Royal Armed Forces for their exceptional alertness, courage and professional capabilities in foiling the attempted drone attack.

He said the Pakistani nation saluted the courage displayed by the Saudi forces.

Drone attempting to enter Makkah airspace destroyed

It may be recalled that Saudi air defence forces destroyed a Houthi drone before it could reach its target after it attempted to enter Makkah’s airspace.

Saudi Defence Ministry spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki said in a statement posted on X that the drone was launched by the Houthi militia.

He said the drone was intercepted and destroyed from the southern direction before entering the prohibited airspace of Makkah.

This has been described as the second attempt to target Makkah. Earlier, on July 27, 2017, a ballistic missile was also fired towards Makkah.

The drone was intercepted and destroyed from the southern direction before entering the prohibited airspace. However, the Houthis rejected the allegation that they had launched a drone attack on Makkah as baseless.
