Web Desk: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is facing allegations over its handling of development and police funding, with claims that large allocations for infrastructure were misused while security needs of the provincial police remained underfunded.
The allegations, circulated in a critical account of the provincial government’s financial priorities, have not been independently verified. No supporting audit findings or official investigation establishing corruption of Rs200 billion were provided with the claims.
According to the allegations, around Rs200 billion allocated for infrastructure and construction projects under the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial administration was distributed improperly, with some projects allegedly shown as completed on paper while funds were diverted through commissions.
The claims do not identify individual projects, contractors or officials responsible for the alleged irregularities. Official audit or investigation records would be needed to establish whether such financial misconduct occurred.
The allegations also focus on the provincial police’s financial requirements amid continuing security challenges in parts of the province.
According to the account, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief submitted a proposal seeking Rs42 billion in emergency funding for measures including night-vision equipment, modern weapons, protective infrastructure and bulletproof police posts.
The provincial government allegedly reduced the proposed amount to Rs14 billion.
The account further claims that senior police officials repeatedly sought the release of funds but that only about Rs1.4 billion had been disbursed from the reduced allocation.
That amount would represent about 10% of the revised Rs14 billion allocation and roughly 3.3% of the original Rs42 billion request.
The claims did not provide official budget documents, release orders or expenditure records to independently substantiate the figures.
The allegations also accuse the provincial administration of making government resources available for political activities while restricting funding for police equipment and security infrastructure.
However, the account does not provide independently verified expenditure records demonstrating that provincial resources were diverted from police needs to political gatherings.
The claims come as security remains a major concern in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan and other districts affected by terrorist violence.
The accusations of large-scale corruption and deliberate underfunding of the police remain claims unless supported by audits, investigations or official documentation.
Publicly available government material has separately identified funding for policing infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s merged districts. In one federal government account of development spending, Rs42 billion was allocated for the province’s merged areas under the Accelerated Implementation Programme, including funding for policing infrastructure.
A definitive assessment of the alleged Rs200 billion irregularities and the police funding dispute would therefore require provincial budget documents, expenditure releases, audit reports and responses from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and police authorities.
