The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns to become a tax filer.
According to an FBR notification, the last date for filing income tax returns had been set for September 30 but has now been extended by 15 days.
Taxpayers can now file their income tax returns until October 15, according to the notification.
FBR sources said the 100% tax collection target for September has been achieved, with total tax collection reaching Rs1,390 billion during the month.
It is worth noting that various business organizations were demanding an extension in the deadline. Sources had indicated the possibility of an extension in the deadline for filing returns.

According to details, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) had expressed strong concern over the sudden password changes and technical problems on the IRIS portal during the final days before the tax filing deadline.
At least 30 percent of taxpayers who are abroad or travelling are reportedly facing difficulties in obtaining new passwords. Overseas Pakistanis are also unable to access the IRIS portal because they are not receiving password-related SMS messages.
The IRIS portal is also reportedly crashing repeatedly due to heavy traffic and system overload in the final days before the deadline.
Consultants and tax experts had urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the Tax Year 2026 income tax filing deadline as taxpayers have faced repeated delays and technical problems with the IRIS portal.
