The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has changed the passwords of all income tax return filers, causing serious difficulties for taxpayers trying to submit their returns as the deadline for filing tax draws near.
According to details, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed strong concern over the sudden password changes and technical problems on the IRIS portal during the final days before the tax filing deadline.The deadline for filing taxes is September 30,
KCCI President Muhammad Rehan Hanif has urged the FBR to immediately restore the previous passwords and extend the September 30 deadline for filing income tax returns by at least one month.
He said the password changes have created major problems for taxpayers trying to access the portal and submit their returns on time.
At least 30 percent of taxpayers who are abroad or travelling are reportedly facing difficulties in obtaining new passwords. Overseas Pakistanis are also unable to access the IRIS portal because they are not receiving password-related SMS messages.
The IRIS portal is also reportedly crashing repeatedly due to heavy traffic and system overload in the final days before the deadline.
Rehan Hanif called on the FBR to restore the old passwords immediately so taxpayers can file their returns without further disruption.
