ISLAMABAD: The bank accounts of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) and NAMAL University have been blocked, according to Aleema Khan’s lawyer Faisal Malik.
Talking to the media, the counsel for Aleema Khan said that Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) and NAMAL University have been blocked and they have already taken the matter to court.
Aleema Khan voiced her concern, saying the freezing of her accounts, along with those of NAMAL University and other institutions, puts students’ future at risk.
She has filed an urgent request to unfreeze the bank accounts of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital.
Her lawyer, Faisal Malik, appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court and submitted the petition, stating that medicines are stuck at the port. Due to non-payment, hundreds of patients’ lives are at risk, as most of the medicines awaiting release are life-saving drugs.
The petition highlighted that the blocked accounts are causing severe difficulties for the hospital administration, which needs to make daily payments for medicines. Aleema Khan has already surrendered before the court, so there is no justification to keep the bank accounts frozen.
The petition also asked who would be responsible if any patient dies due to delayed delivery of medicines.
The court accepted Aleema Khan’s petition for hearing and issued notices to the prosecution to submit arguments.
Lawyers from both sides will present their arguments tomorrow, with ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah presiding over the hearing.
