Mohammad Rizwan responds to NCCIA

Pakistan national cricket team wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has once again written to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding the allegations against him.

In his letter, Rizwan confirmed that he would appear before the NCCIA on October 2, saying he had received the notice and confirming his participation in the inquiry on the scheduled date.

Rizwan also sought clarification on several questions raised by the agency.

The wicketkeeper said the first notice had accused him of online betting and gambling, while the agency had referred to the electronic fraud provision under PECA 2016 during proceedings in court. However, he noted that the latest notice did not mention the allegations of online betting and gambling and asked the agency to clarify the situation.

Rizwan said he required clarification on several points to understand the matter, including whether the inquiry was still related to online betting or gambling and which specific provisions of PECA 2016 were relevant to the investigation. He also asked to be informed in writing if the scope of the inquiry had changed following the first notice.

In his letter, Rizwan further asked whether the allegations of betting and gambling, which could affect his reputation as a cricketer, had been shared with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit or any other relevant cricketing body. He also asked whether any information had been sought from or communication made with the PCB or ICC.

Rizwan said his mobile phone remained in the possession of the NCCIA and that he had provided the password during his first appearance. He said the device was reopened and examined in his presence, but no written document regarding its seizure, warrant, custody record or continued retention had been provided to him.

The wicketkeeper asked what further personal cooperation was required from him for the forensic examination. He also requested that the forensic examination be completed without delay and that his mobile phone be returned immediately.

Rizwan said he had still not been informed of the exact allegations against him and reiterated that he was ready to fully cooperate with and assist in any lawful inquiry.
