free 14-day tourist visa

Web Desk: Oman has introduced a free 14-day tourist visa for citizens of selected countries as part of sweeping amendments to its foreign residency regulations aimed at encouraging short-term travel and boosting tourism.

The new measure was introduced under Royal Oman Police Decision No. 109/2026, issued by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs. The amendments took effect a day after their publication in the Official Gazette.

Under the revised regulations, the competent authorities may issue a complimentary 14-day tourist visa to nationals of countries designated as eligible under the new rules.

Authorities said visitors who wish to extend their stay will be allowed to convert the free entry permit into another category of tourist visa before its expiration, subject to the applicable regulations.

The move is designed to simplify entry procedures for short-term visitors while supporting the sultanate’s efforts to attract more international tourists.

The amendments introduce the new visa classification under Article 10 of the executive regulations governing the Foreigners’ Residence Law.

In addition, the visa has been incorporated into the official schedule of entry visas under Article 29, where the application fee has been set at zero Omani rials.

While Oman has confirmed the introduction of the visa, officials have not yet released the list of countries whose citizens will qualify for the free entry permit.

The authorities said the facility will be available only to nationals of countries designated by the competent authority, with further details expected to be announced separately.

The latest changes form part of Oman’s broader strategy to facilitate international travel and strengthen the country’s tourism sector by making short-term visits more accessible to foreign travelers.
