Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Monday that constructive public discourse and responsible digital media are essential to strengthening national unity and countering misinformation.

Digital Media Seen as Key to National Security

Speaking at a media interaction, Tarar emphasized that digital platforms now play a decisive role in shaping public perception, noting their impact during recent Pakistan–India tensions. He said digital media must help counter hostile narratives “in the enemy’s own language” while projecting a positive image of the country.

Tarar added that digital platforms should take a central role in curbing fake news, as coordinated disinformation campaigns on social media often target national security and state institutions.

Department of Digital Communication Highlighted

The minister recalled that he established the Digital Communication Department upon assuming office, using it frequently to brief the public during periods of heightened tensions. He said that during a visit to Azerbaijan, officials there expressed interest in receiving training from Pakistan in digital communication systems.

Emphasis on Dialogue and Political Openness

Transitioning to political affairs, Tarar said politics functions through dialogue and open doors, adding that issues progress only through communication and inclusive engagement. He noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party, a coalition partner, has consistently supported the government on critical matters.

Expanding Pakistan’s Digital Footprint

Turning to economic developments, Tarar said Pakistan’s information technology exports continue to rise, adding that positive attitudes and collaborative approaches can help resolve pressing national issues.

He reiterated that strengthening the state remains his primary aspiration and that digital media must play a constructive role in promoting Pakistan’s stability and global standing.
