Islamabad: A recent update on the social media platform X has exposed a network of fake accounts linked to India, Afghanistan and the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, which authorities say were spreading anti-Pakistan propaganda, disinformation and sectarian discord.

Update Reveals Foreign-Linked Fake Accounts

According to official sources, the platform’s new transparency features made it clear that several accounts associated with Afghan groups, “Fitna al-Hindustan” and PTM were operating with foreign agendas. Many of these accounts had positioned themselves as human rights advocates while allegedly promoting falsehoods, hate and instability inside Pakistan.

Officials said the update also brought to light Indian accounts involved in amplifying misleading narratives and fanning hostility against Pakistan. They added that numerous operators used VPNs to disguise their locations as they pushed narratives related to terrorism and internal unrest.

Accounts Linked to Militant Networks Uncovered

Further findings revealed that accounts connected to “Fitna al-Khawarij” and “Fitna al-Hindustan” militants were being run from India and other countries. Several social media profiles claiming to advocate for human rights in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also traced back to foreign networks with ties to India.

Authorities say the exposure of these networks demonstrates the extent of overseas propaganda operations aimed at creating confusion and exacerbating societal divisions in Pakistan.

Coordinated Political Narratives Traced Abroad

Sources noted that various political narratives circulating online had also been orchestrated from abroad to deepen polarization. Experts described the uncovering of these disinformation chains as a significant development in understanding cross-border digital influence campaigns.

They added that the unmasking of what they called “foreign propaganda factories” marks a turning point in identifying and countering hostile networks operating against Pakistan on global social media platforms.
