Muhammad Shafiq at Wagah border dies

Lahore: Mohammad Shafiq, known for boosting the spirit of citizens by chanting slogans during the daily parade at the Wagah Border, has passed away.


According to a private TV channel, Express News, sources said that Mohammad Shafiq had been suffering from liver and kidney disease for a long time and was under treatment in the ICU of a private hospital for the past few days. His condition had remained critical.


Mohammad Shafiq had been regularly participating in the Wagah Border parade since 2002. He not only raised powerful slogans to energize the crowd but also became a familiar face due to his unique style and passionate presence, adding excitement to the atmosphere.


He worked at a bakery in the Jallo Morr area near Wagah Border and made it a routine to attend the parade daily after work.


His body was sent this morning to his native village, Jalalpur Jattan in Gujrat district, where he will be laid to rest. A wave of grief has spread in the area, while many visitors to Wagah Border are remembering him fondly.


Locals and regular attendees of the parade described him as a symbol of patriotism and enthusiasm, saying his absence will be deeply felt at the ceremony where his voice once played a key role in uplifting the crowd’s spirit.


Pakistani border authorities also expressed sorrow over his passing, acknowledging his long-standing presence at the parade and his contribution to its vibrant atmosphere.

Furthermore, fans took to social media to pay tribute, sharing videos and memories of his energetic chants, while others called for recognizing his services as a unique part of the Wagah Border tradition.
