UN chief condemns Islamabad suicide attack, offers condolences to victims’ families

The United Nations’ deputy spokesperson, Farhan Aziz Haq, said in a news briefing at the UN headquarters that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the suicide attack in the premises of the district and  session court in Islamabad’s G-11 area, and urged the Pakistani authorities to take decisive action against the perpetrators.

“The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the reported suicide attack, and he extends his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a full recovery to those injured,” Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Aziz Haq said.

“The Secretary-General condemns acts of violence and terrorism in the strongest terms,” the spokesperson stressed that there should be accountability for all culprits responsible for the attack in the federal capital.

He also stated that the UN chief called for a full investigation into the attack, which took place outside the district and sessions court building in Islamabad’s G-11 area, killing 12 people and wounding 36.

At least 12 people lost their lives whereas 27 sustained injuries in suicide blast in Islamabad G-11 sector’s District Courts in yet another incident of Indian sponsored terrorism.

As per details, the authorities have reached the spot of incident and rescue vehicles have been rushed to the area. The head of the suicide bomber’s head was found lying on the road at the scene.

Earlier reports stated that the blast was reportedly caused by gas cylinder explosion in a vehicle parked near the district court in Islamabad.

According to police, the blast occurred in the court’s parking area when a cylinder installed in the vehicle exploded. Eyewitnesses said that the explosion was heard from a distance.

The injured have been rushed to PIMS Hospital, and an emergency has been declared. Rescue 1122, other ambulances, and police vehicles are carrying the injured.

So far, more than 12 individuals, including several in critical condition, have been admitted to PIMS.

After the blast, the court building was evacuated. Lawyers and judges were removed from the premises.

Police have cordoned off the spot of the incident and are collecting evidence. Investigation is underway to know the nature and cause of the explosion. A heavy police contingent has been deployed to PIMS Hospital.
