T20 World cup: Can Pakistan reach semi finals?

Web Desk: Pakistan’s path to the T20 World Cup semi-finals remains uncertain after England secured a dramatic two-wicket win, chasing down a target of 165 in the final over of their Super 8 clash.

As a result, Pakistan’s qualification hopes now depend not only on their own performance but also on other match outcomes in the group.

Pakistan can still advance to the semi-finals if New Zealand lose both of their remaining Super 8 fixtures and Pakistan defeat Sri Lanka in their final match of the round.

However, the equation becomes more complicated if New Zealand drop only one game. In that scenario, Pakistan would need a convincing victory over Sri Lanka to significantly boost their net run rate, which could prove decisive in the standings.

On the other hand, if New Zealand win both of their remaining matches, Pakistan will be eliminated from semi-final contention regardless of their result against Sri Lanka.

New Zealand’s upcoming matches against England and Sri Lanka are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the group’s final outcome. The Black Caps are scheduled to face England on February 27 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a clash against Sri Lanka at the same time the following day.

With the group stage entering its decisive phase, Pakistan must not only secure victory but also hope for favorable results elsewhere to keep their semi-final ambitions alive.
