Web desk: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has found Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav guilty of breaching the code of conduct, according to sources.
According to a leading cricket website, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had lodged a complaint against Yadav’s remarks, which were deemed political in nature.
Sources confirmed that ICC match referee Richie Richardson delivered the verdict, ruling Yadav’s statement as a violation of regulations that prohibit players from making political comments.
The ICC is expected to release full details of the decision soon.
However, reports suggest that Yadav could face a fine of up to 30 per cent of his match fee as part of the penalty.
Previously, the International Cricket Council (ICC) restricted Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav from making political statements, following a formal complaint lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over his comments during and after the recent Asia Cup clash against Pakistan.
Sources said Yadav had appeared before ICC officials at the council’s headquarters in Dubai on Thursday after the PCB submitted a letter of protest.
The complaint centred on his remarks dedicating India’s victory to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and to the country’s armed forces.
After reviewing the matter, the ICC ruled against Yadav and issued instructions barring him from making political statements in the future, stressing that “no political statements of any kind will be made on the ground going forward.”
