ISLAMABAD: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and across the world are observing Accession to Pakistan Day today, commemorating the historic resolution passed on July 19, 1947.
The day marks the adoption of the Accession to Pakistan Resolution by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar, in which the state’s future was linked with Pakistan in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
According to the official narrative, the resolution reflected the collective political vision, national consciousness, and ideological affinity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan. It is regarded as a key political and moral basis for the Kashmiris’ demand for the right to self-determination and remains central to Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute.
Kashmiris are observing the day by renewing their pledge to continue their struggle for freedom from Indian rule and to pursue the implementation of the July 19, 1947 resolution.
President’s Message
President Asif Ali Zardari said Accession to Pakistan Day reminds the world of the historic aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He said Pakistan and the people of Jammu and Kashmir share deep historical, cultural, and spiritual ties.
The president stressed that the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination must be respected and reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. He also urged the international community to take notice of alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
PM’s Message
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a special message, said the July 19, 1947 resolution reflected the collective aspirations of the Kashmiri people and described the Accession to Pakistan Resolution as a historic milestone in the political struggle of Jammu and Kashmir.
The prime minister said the bond between the people of Pakistan and Kashmir is rooted in a shared history, faith, culture, and geography. He reaffirmed that Pakistan remains steadfast in its principled support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and stressed that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Interior Minister’s Statement
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the Kashmiri people, saying he salutes all Kashmiri martyrs and Hurriyat leaders who have kept the flame of freedom alive.
He described the July 19, 1947 resolution as a true reflection of the collective aspirations of the Kashmiri people and a significant milestone in the Kashmir freedom movement, adding that it demonstrated the unwavering resolve of the Kashmiri leadership to align the region’s future with Pakistan even before Pakistan’s independence.
