Web desk: The Meteorological Department has announced that the monsoon season has officially ended across most parts of the country, with no major weather systems expected in the coming days.
According to officials, flood-affected areas of Punjab and Sindh are likely to experience hot and dry conditions, which may also have an impact on ongoing recovery operations.
The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that the monsoon spell has formally concluded from today.
He added that with the rains now over, the focus of the government and relief agencies should shift entirely towards rehabilitation work and assistance for those affected.
Reports suggest that while the upper regions of the country will witness relatively mild weather during the night, daytime temperatures are expected to rise in the plains, particularly in Punjab and Sindh.
Experts believe that dry weather will dominate most parts of Pakistan until mid-October.
Government to stand by flood victims until they are rehabilitated, says Gilani
Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has pledged that the government will stand by flood victims until their full rehabilitation is achieved, assuring that every effort will be made to restore homes and livelihoods.
Addressing a relief distribution event in Multan, Gilani said the recent floods had caused widespread devastation, destroying houses, farmland, businesses, and livestock across the country.
“We share the grief of every affected family and will not rest until they return to their homes with dignity,” he said.
He lauded welfare organisations for their role in providing food, shelter, and essential supplies to thousands of people each day. He also announced that orphaned children would be given complete educational and social support.
Gilani stressed that the government’s efforts alone were not enough, urging philanthropists, traders, and the business community to play their part.
“These difficult days will end. Together, with civil society, federal and provincial governments, we will rebuild stronger communities,” he added.
