Web Desk: Consumers in Pakistan face a significant financial burden as the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA) warned of a potential surge in ghee and cooking oil prices by up to 150 rupees per kilogram.

The association attributed the projected hike to the recent spike in petroleum product prices, which has triggered a domino effect across the industrial sector. According to a PVMA advisor, the rising cost of fuel has led to an unbearable increase in both production and transportation expenses for ghee mills.

Manufacturers explained that the operational costs of maintaining supply chains have climbed beyond sustainable levels. Consequently, these added expenses are expected to be passed on to the general public, with price increases estimated to range between 100 and Rs150 per kg.

In response to the looming crisis, the PVMA advisor urged the government to immediately form a high-level panel. The association suggested that such a committee is essential to explore strategic measures and find a viable pathway to mitigate the price hike for struggling consumers.

The potential increase comes at a time when household budgets are already stretched, raising concerns about food security and inflation across the country.
