Web Desk: A sessions court in Rawalpindi sentenced Farrukh Khokhar to life imprisonment after convicting him in the 2022 murder of Majid Satti, bringing a high-profile case that drew significant political attention closer to its conclusion.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Afshan Ijaz Safi announced the verdict and ordered Khokhar’s immediate arrest inside the courtroom.
Authorities placed handcuffs on the convicted man moments after the ruling and escorted him into custody. The court also directed prison authorities to transfer him to Adiala Jail under heightened security arrangements.
Farrukh Khokhar is the son of the late Taji Khokhar, a well-known political figure in Rawalpindi who was considered a close associate of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Before the conviction, Farrukh Khokhar had resigned from the Pakistan Peoples Party and later joined Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F).
The case had attracted widespread attention because of the family’s political profile and the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Prosecutors alleged that Majid Satti was brutally killed on Aug. 23, 2022. Police registered the case at Sadiqabad Police Station and launched an investigation that eventually led to the prosecution of Khokhar.
According to the prosecution, Satti was killed during a dispute linked to an alleged attempt to seize a plot of land. Investigators said the victim had resisted the alleged land grab before he was attacked.
Majid Satti was associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a detail that kept the case in the public spotlight throughout the trial.
With Monday’s ruling, the court concluded one of Rawalpindi’s most closely watched murder trials. Khokhar was taken directly from the courtroom to begin serving his sentence pending any appeal before a higher court.
