Web Desk: Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis says he will not enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, opting instead to play in next year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL). The veteran batter announced the decision in a statement shared on social media, saying he was looking forward to a different experience after more than a decade in the IPL.

Du Plessis Reflects on Long IPL Journey

Du Plessis said the IPL had shaped his professional and personal life, praising the league’s players, fans and franchises. He noted that India had given him enduring friendships and valuable lessons throughout his 14 seasons in the competition.

The 41-year-old featured for four IPL teams: Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and most recently Delhi Capitals. In the 2025 season, he played nine matches for Delhi, scoring 202 runs at an average of 22.44.

Across his IPL career, he appeared in 154 games and scored 4,773 runs at an average of 35.09, establishing himself as one of the league’s most consistent overseas performers.

Turning Toward the PSL

Du Plessis said he plans to join the PSL in 2026, calling the decision an exciting shift at this stage of his career. He has previously played in Pakistan’s franchise league, turning out for Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators in a total of six matches over two seasons.

He described the upcoming PSL stint as an opportunity to embrace a fresh environment rather than a step away from the IPL for good.

Intends to Return to IPL

Although he will not play in the 2026 edition, Du Plessis stressed that he is not closing the door on the IPL. He said he remains open to returning in future seasons after testing himself in new surroundings.

His move comes after Delhi Capitals released him following a disappointing 2025 campaign, but Du Plessis framed the change as a deliberate shift rather than an exit from the league where he spent most of his T20 career.
