The District Magistrate’s Office has issued a revised notification regarding business hours under ongoing austerity measures, introducing new closing timings for various commercial activities across the capital.
According to the official notification dated 10th June 2026, the updated schedule applies to shops, markets, restaurants, and several service providers
Under the new rules, shops, markets, shopping malls, and bazaars across Islamabad will now close at 9:00 PM every day, with inclusion of Saturday and Sunday. Departmental stores will also follow the same timing.
Standalone grocery stores, known locally as kiryana shops, along with marriage halls, marquees, and other event venues, have been allowed to remain open until 10:00 PM.
Besides, restaurants, cafés, eateries, food outlets, and standalone fruit and vegetable shops will be permitted to operate until 11:00 PM. However, takeaway and home delivery services have been exempted from this restriction, allowing them to continue beyond closing hours.
The notification also grants special exemptions to essential services. Hospitals, clinics, medical laboratories, pharmacies, fuel and CNG stations, electric vehicle charging points, gyms, sports facilities, IT companies, and call centers will continue operating without any time restrictions.
Officials say the move is the continuation of broader austerity measures aimed at economic use of energy and streamlining commercial activity in the federal capital. The notification will come into effect immediately from 10th June 2026 and will remain in effect until further order.
Authorities have urged business owners to comply with the new timings to avoid penalties and ensure smooth implementation of the policy. Citizens have also been directed to make necessary arrangements for their essential goods during the allocated time.
