Great news for electricity consumers as NEPRA reduces prices

electricity tariffs

Islamabad: Pakistan’s power regulator has notified a reduction of 88 paisas per unit in electricity tariffs for one month, offering temporary relief to millions of consumers amid rising living costs.

NEPRA Announces Short-Term Tariff Relief

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued the notification on Wednesday, confirming that the reduced tariff will apply to consumers of all distribution companies, including Karachi-based K-Electric. However, lifeline customers and electric vehicle charging stations will not be eligible for the relief.

Officials said the adjustment will be reflected in December electricity bills.

Consumers Expected to Benefit in December Bills

Authorities anticipate that the one-time reduction will provide meaningful relief to general consumers during the December billing cycle. The decision comes as households continue to face pressure from high power tariffs, driven by fuel price adjustments, capacity payments, and the country’s broader economic challenges.

The short-term cut follows a series of tariff revisions implemented throughout the year, as regulators balance sectoral costs with consumer affordability.
