Rawalpindi: Pakistan’s military on Wednesday hosted a farewell ceremony at the Joint Staff Headquarters to honor General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI, NI (M), as he concluded four decades of service and stepped down as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

Senior Military Leadership Attends Ceremony

The event drew former CJCSCs and senior officers from the army, navy and air force, underscoring the significance of Gen. Mirza’s long military career. A tri-services contingent presented a Guard of Honour upon his arrival, marking the start of the formal proceedings.

Mirza Reflects on Four Decades of Service

In his farewell address, Gen. Mirza expressed gratitude to Allah for the strength and commitment required to fulfill his responsibilities. Moreover, he said he served with “dedication, professionalism and selfless devotion,” and thanked the armed forces for their steadfast support throughout his tenure.

He further paid tribute to the military’s sacrifices in defending the country and also offered homage to the martyrs of the armed forces and their families, noting their central role in upholding national security.

Emphasis on National Defence

Moving to current challenges, the outgoing CJCSC said Pakistan’s geo-strategic environment demanded a robust defence posture. He reaffirmed that the country’s defence “remains impregnable,” adding that officers and soldiers stand ready to further strengthen it whenever required.

Guard of Honour Marks Departure

Earlier in the day, a smartly dressed tri-services contingent accorded Gen. Mirza a Guard of Honour, symbolizing the military’s formal farewell as he completed 40 years of distinguished service.
