India restricts Sikh pilgrims from attending Guru Nanak anniversary at Kartarpur

WEBDESK: The three-day celebrations marking the 486th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji began today at the Kartarpur Gurdwara. The holy site has been opened to local visitors so they can take part in the spiritual occasion.

The main and concluding ceremony will be held on 22 September, with religious and social leaders expected to attend. Special prayers, kirtan, and langar have been arranged for the devotees.

Head Granthi Sardar Gobind Singh confirmed that India has not allowed Sikh pilgrims to cross into Pakistan for this year’s events, a decision that has caused disappointment among religious circles.

He noted that the Kartarpur Corridor was originally established to ensure unhindered access for Sikhs from both countries to visit their sacred sites. The restriction, he said, has left thousands of devotees disheartened.

Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, is remembered as a great spiritual leader who preached interfaith harmony, love, and service to humanity.
