US hits Indian oil tanker

According to Reuters, US forces have disabled an Indian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman through an airstrike after the vessel allegedly attempted to transport oil from Iran in violation of a US naval blockade.

The US military said the tanker failed to comply with repeated instructions issued by American forces. As a result, a US aircraft targeted the ship’s engine room, rendering the vessel inoperable.

Following the incident, India summoned the deputy chief of the US mission in New Delhi and formally lodged a strong protest over the attack on the oil tanker, Reuters reported.

The strike reportedly triggered a fire onboard the vessel. Three Indian crew members remain missing, while 24 of the ship’s 28 crew members were Indian nationals. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
