Web Desk: Authorities said they are investigating the fatal shooting of a sessions judge in Balochistan after senior officials described the attack as part of a broader campaign of militant violence in the province.
Sessions Judge Abdul Hakim Kakar and his bodyguard were killed in an attack in Mastung district earlier this week, officials said. The incident also left others injured and has renewed concerns over security in the restive province.
Authorities have not publicly identified those responsible for the attack, and no group has claimed responsibility.
Government officials said the killing followed a series of recent attacks across Balochistan that they believe were intended to create fear and instability.
They pointed to several incidents in recent weeks, including the killings of five laborers in Mashkel, Washuk district, the fatal shooting of three bus passengers in Khad Kocha on July 22, and an earlier attack in which a woman was killed after gunmen opened fire on a vehicle.
Officials said investigators are examining whether the attacks are connected.
Officials described the attack on the judge as particularly significant because it targeted a member of the judiciary.
They said law enforcement agencies are investigating all possible motives and are working to determine whether the shooting formed part of a coordinated campaign against state institutions.
No official findings have yet been released linking the attack to any individual or organization.
The statements also referred to the conviction of rights activist Mahrang Baloch by an anti-terrorism court in Quetta on June 22, 2026.
Officials noted that criticism of the judiciary was voiced on social media following the ruling and said investigators would examine any material deemed relevant to the case.
However, authorities have not publicly presented evidence establishing a connection between those statements and the killing of Judge Kakar.
Security officials said investigations remain ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation while authorities gather evidence.
The attack has intensified concerns over the security situation in Balochistan, where militants have carried out repeated attacks targeting security forces, government personnel and civilians in recent years.
Officials said those responsible for the latest attack would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
