A new record in ridership has been set in Punjab through the free travel facility, while efforts to provide public convenience in difficult times continue.

According to details, around 40 million passengers benefited from free travel in one month from April 4 to May 4. Metro bus services, Orange Line Metro Train, Speedo, and electric buses provided benefits to all segments of society.

During this period, more than 10 million passengers travelled via the Orange Line Metro Train. Around 6.4 million passengers used the Lahore Metro Bus Service, while over 4.5 million passengers benefited from free travel on Speedo buses.

Under the PMA initiative, more than 600,000 passengers used free travel on green electric buses operating in Lahore.

In Rawalpindi, approximately 925,000 passengers used green electric buses, while more than 3.7 million passengers benefited from the Metro Bus Service. In Multan, over 3.5 million passengers used the metro bus system, while around 700,000 passengers travelled on feeder routes.

More than 9 million passengers travelled on electric buses operating in different districts under the Punjab Transport Company.

Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan expressed gratitude over successfully providing free travel facilities to around 40 million passengers. He directed concerned officials to ensure all facilities for commuters and address complaints.

He said that despite unusual rush, free travel facilities were successfully provided without any interruption. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif always takes prompt steps to provide relief to the public.

Bilal Akbar Khan added that people from all ages, classes, and professions are benefiting from the free travel facility. Labourers, employees, students, elderly people, and women all have benefited from it.

The transport minister further said that steps are being taken on a priority basis for the prosperity of the people of Punjab, and emergency measures are underway to operate hundreds of electric buses across all districts of Punjab.
