The new cabin crew uniforms for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have sparked a fresh debate on social media immediately upon their introduction. While the initial designs—created by renowned designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin—were highly praised, users were taken aback when they saw the actual uniforms worn by the crew on flights this Saturday.
According to social media users, there was a noticeable difference between the uniforms showcased during the presentation and those actually worn by the crew. Some questioned what could have happened to the design in such a short time to alter its appearance so drastically. Speculations ranged from a tailoring error to issues with how the garments were laundered, while others suggested that the outfits displayed on the ramp might have been created solely for the purpose of the showcase.
The designer had previously stated that the new uniforms were developed with a focus on durability, comfort for long-haul flights, and the range of motion required by the crew. However, the new images did not reflect the level of sophistication that had been anticipated, although some users did describe the attire as comfortable.
Some users disliked the new design from the very start, while others reminisced about the previous uniforms created by Nomi Ansari. On the other hand, there were those who did not mind the new attire; however, one user compared it to the uniforms worn by the space crew in the famous science fiction series ‘Star Trek’.
Providing clarification on the matter, a PIA spokesperson stated that the standard uniform design was presented at the exhibition; however, some initial adjustments regarding sizing and measurements were inevitable during the practical rollout for all flight crew.
According to the spokesperson, these are initial issues, some of which were rectified as early as the very next flight. PIA is currently engaged in further refining the fit and overall appearance of the uniforms at various crew bases—both within the country and abroad—while the shortcomings identified during the initial phase are being gradually addressed.
