The third and final Test of the series between the cricket teams of England and Pakistan will begin on Wednesday at Edgbaston, the home ground of Warwickshire County. The hosts have taken a decisive 2-0 lead in the series.
Interestingly, none of the players in Pakistan’s current squad has played a Test against England at this ground.
Captain Babar Azam has played 65 Tests, Shan Masood 49, and fast bowler Mohammad Abbas 32 Tests for Pakistan. They have also toured England more than once; however, this will be the first Test match for all of them at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
So far, eight Tests have been played between Pakistan and England at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, where England have a complete advantage over Pakistan.
Pakistan played their first Test at this ground in May-June 1962 under the captaincy of Javed Burki, where England, led by Ted Dexter, defeated Pakistan by an innings and 24 runs.
In June 1971, the Test between England and Pakistan under the captaincy of Intikhab Alam ended in a draw. Pakistan scored 608 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 195 overs in their first innings. In that Test, Zaheer Abbas scored 274 runs off 467 balls, which remains the highest score by any Pakistani batter at this ground.
It should be noted that the third Test between Pakistan and England will be played at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham from September 9.
