WhatsApp Parental feature

WhatsApp has launched a new feature allowing parents to manage the accounts of children under 13, the company announced. Named Parent Managed Accounts, this feature enables parents to control their child’s WhatsApp activity.

According to WhatsApp, children using Parent Managed Accounts will only have access to messaging and calling features. The feature is designed to ensure the online safety of children under 13.

By default, strict settings will apply, giving parents control over:
Who can contact their child
Which groups the child can join
Adjusting privacy settings

All communications will remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring secure chats. However, children will not have access to features such as Meta AI, Channels, or Status.

Setting up the account requires both the parent’s and child’s devices. Accounts will be linked using a QR code, after which parents can manage the child’s account remotely.

When the child turns 13, parents will receive a notification allowing them to convert the Parent Managed Account into a standard WhatsApp account.

The company stated that the feature will be rolled out to all users in the coming months.
