Web desk: The United States space agency NASA has announced March 6 as the launch date for its next mission to the Moon under the Artemis program. The mission aims to send humans around the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years.

NASA will send four astronauts on a 10 day journey. The crew will travel around the far side of the Moon before returning safely to Earth.

The agency views this mission as the first step in a new series of lunar missions. The long term goal is to land humans on the Moon again and expand deep space exploration.

NASA officials say the Artemis program could also help build a permanent base on the Moon in the future. Such a base may later serve as a launch point for human missions to Mars.
