Former Pakistan hockey team captain and strong defensive player Muhammad Saqlain defended against his opponents’ attacks many times on the playing field, but when life confronted him with a dangerous disease like cancer, he fought that battle with the same courage and strong nerves for which he was known on the field.
Speaking to media, Muhammad Saqlain revealed that he was diagnosed with oral cancer around eight months ago, and at that time the disease had already reached Stage 4B.
He said, “I had Stage 4B cancer. I underwent an 18-hour surgery. It was a very difficult phase for me.”
Despite the dangerous disease, Muhammad Saqlain did not make his suffering public and quietly went through the stages of treatment.
He said that there were already many difficulties in life, so he did not tell anyone and add to their worries.
After a long and difficult treatment, Muhammad Saqlain is now undergoing immunotherapy and has returned to his normal life.
For Muhammad Saqlain, hockey is not just a sport but also a lesson in life that taught him to remain strong in difficult circumstances. He says that just as he faced every attack from an opponent on the field, he stood firm against cancer as well. “The sport made me strong. I fought cancer just as I fought on the playing field.”
The Pain of Pakistan’s Defeat Was Greater Than the Pain of the Disease: Muhammad Saqlain
While speaking about the pain of cancer and his recovery from it, Muhammad Saqlain could not control his emotions and became tearful. He said that the pain of Pakistan’s defeat in the semifinals and final was greater than this pain.
After fighting a dangerous disease like cancer and returning to life, Muhammad Saqlain’s message is not only for cancer patients but also for everyone facing difficulties in life.
He says that difficulties are a part of life, but a person should not lose courage in front of them. “My message is that pain will come in life; face it bravely, do not become weak, be strong, otherwise you will not be able to live your life.”
