NEW DELHI: Despite repeated promises, Delhi’s air pollution crisis remains unresolved and now, new allegations suggest that the Modi government is attempting to hide the true scale of the problem.
According to The Indian Express, the government has begun spraying water around pollution monitoring stations to artificially lower pollution readings. The report revealed that at the Anand Vihar monitoring station, municipal corporation tankers have been continuously spraying water day and night.
The Indian Express further noted that dozens of trucks were seen sprinkling water across the 30-meter area surrounding the air quality sensors, allegedly to suppress real pollution levels.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi president, Saurabh Bharadwaj, released a video showing the water-spraying activity and posted on social media platform X: “This is not pollution control; it’s data management by the Modi government.”
Bharadwaj added that the BJP government is “dishonest in every matter, so this deception is no surprise,” accusing the administration of wasting both water and petrol just to manipulate air quality data.
Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also lashed out at the government, saying, “Pollute the air, manipulate the numbers, and use water to hide the truth — this is BJP’s pollution control model.”
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, pollution levels at Anand Vihar rose by more than 54% once the water-spraying activity subsided in the afternoon.
Even as Delhi’s air quality continues to deteriorate, the Modi government faces mounting criticism for using misleading tactics to fool the public instead of addressing the environmental crisis.
