Web desk: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched a special drive to help government employees secure valid driving licences.
The campaign began on September 17 and will continue until September 26, during which officials will be assisted at traffic offices as well as through mobile facilitation vans.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, Capt. (retd) Hamzah Humayun, explained that during operations against illegal parking around Secretariat Blocks, authorities discovered many employees driving cars and motorcycles without licences.
He remarked that, “as government employees, accountability must begin with ourselves before the law can rightfully be enforced on the public.”
The ITP has announced that full support will be extended to staff from all departments until the deadline.
However, after September 26, anyone caught without a licence will face strict legal consequences, including possible impounding of vehicles and departmental action. The CTO stressed that no individual, regardless of rank or institution, would be exempt.
Despite the initiative, some government workers are worried about the limited timeframe. Hassan Mahmood, a federal employee, told APP that issuing licences to thousands of staff in just nine days would be unrealistic.
The campaign aims to ensure compliance with traffic laws among government employees, with ITP resources fully dedicated to licence issuance until the cut-off date.
