Web Desk: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday launched an anti-encroachment operation at the Sunday Bazaar in sectors G-10 and G-11, demolishing illegal structures and clearing public spaces.
According to CDA officials, the operation followed repeated complaints about stallholders and vendors extending beyond the designated bazaar area. The encroachments had occupied footpaths, green belts and government land reserved for parking and public movement.
The CDA Enforcement Directorate, assisted by the Islamabad administration and police, removed more than a dozen illegal structures. These structures had obstructed access to residential houses and commercial areas.
A CDA spokesperson said the anti-encroachment drive would continue without discrimination.
Officials said vendors could operate only within the officially designated limits of the Sunday Bazaar. Those found setting up illegal encroachments again would face heavy fines and possible cancellation of their stalls.
The operation is part of the CDA’s city-wide campaign against illegal constructions and encroachments in areas including G-6, G-7, G-10, G-11, Sabzi Mandi and Bhara Kahu.
Earlier, the weekly bazaars in sectors H-9 and G-6 were closed from October 16 over the failure to implement fire safety measures.
The Directorate of Municipal Administration issued a formal notification ordering the closures with the approval of the Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI).
Under the notification, both bazaars must obtain fire safety clearance from Capital Emergency Services and the CDA before reopening.
The authorities have directed the relevant departments to ensure that all required fire safety arrangements are completed.
Neither bazaar will be allowed to reopen until the necessary measures are in place and the relevant authorities grant clearance.
