Pakistan women’s football team player Maryam Mehmood has become the first female player to represent the country to earn a place on Wrexham FC Women’s International Honours Board.
The name of Pakistan men’s team player Umar Nawaz has also been added to the British football club’s International Honours Board.
Wrexham FC honoured Maryam Mehmood on the International Honours Board for representing Pakistan.
Maryam Mehmood said she was extremely happy and proud to see her name on the International Honours Board, describing her journey of representing Pakistan at the international level as incredible.
She said seeing her name alongside the club’s legends on the International Honours Board felt surreal, adding that she had no words to describe her emotions over representing Pakistan.
The Pakistan women’s football team player further said making her international debut for Pakistan and receiving tremendous support from fans was incredible, adding that inspiring the younger generation as much as possible was her personal goal.
Maryam Mehmood said playing three matches for Pakistan in Ivory Coast was a memorable experience, while scoring for Pakistan against Turks and Caicos was particularly special for her.
She also said that she did not have a female role model growing up and was happy that she could now play that role for young girls.
